Why we built our Google Workspace Backup

GWS Backup was created after we identified a need for Google Workspace Backup software that works the way we wanted. As managed service providers, we needed complete control over the backup process rather than relying on third-party cloud storage we couldn't audit.

Our aim is to create Google Workspace Backup software which allows you to choose your own storage destination. Whether that's S3, Google Cloud, or local NAS — you decide where your data lives. We felt better knowing we controlled the space rather than a third party.

The End of Silent Failures

When you backup a workspace for the first time, there is a limitation all backup software faces. Google defines policies which limit how often you ask for information and how much of it you can move.

What other products do is tell you, the user, the backup was completed successfully. This isn't true in some cases!

We show the backup as stopped, explain the error, and wait for the next scheduled run. When the run has truly completed, you'll get told this! We hate 'fake stats'. Honesty and transparency are our biggest features.
